Quotes By Paul Batchelder

Letters to the Editor - June 24

Wisdom of the elders

Dear Editor:

It is true. There is nothing new under the sun. I ran across this list of quotes, some gathered from my elders, some made up on my own. They all seem to fit.

* Grandpa, what’s to become of this world?

* You can bend a tree (or a child) when it is young and make it grow where you want it to. As it grows older it gets harder and harder to do.

* Live within your means.

* Cash is king

* I make money, money does not make me.

* You don’t know what you don’t know.

* Make your plans, but do not plan on it.

* If God brings you to it, God will bring you through it.

* At the end of every life there is a cane.

* You get what you pay for.

* You create your own problems.

* It hurts to pay cash.

* Pain is in every life…suffering is optional.

First Communion 2009

+
The preparation began many months ago-
Filled with lessons and important things to learn and know.

+

Week in and week out, the teachers prepared a lesson-
To get their message through to each child, one by one.

+

And before long, all those classes turned into looking forward to the big day-
The day, when everyone would participate, all headed the same way.

+

The dresses and suits were bought, and prepared carefully-
To accommodate a great celebration, for the whole parish to see.

+

And then the day came when all dressed up, the children stood in line-
A little nervous, but so much joy, onecould easily find.

+

Beautiful little children dressed in their very best-
A wonderful celebration, with the whole parish, becoming the special guests.

+

As they walk in procession into St. John of the Cross Catholic Church,
in New Caney, with their teachers, the altar servers, and Father Hai-

May everyone feel the blessings of this day,
as each precious child passes by.

+

A special moment to remember, for God's Little Ones,
their First Communion Day-
In the month of April and May on two beautiful Saturdays.

The Ladies of St. John of the Cross Parish Get Together

The ladies of St. John of the Cross Parish got together-
So that they could have fun and get to know each other better.

They brought their own lunches, and desserts were provided with
lemonade and tea-
This was an interesting event that was going on in East Montgomery County.

A few numbers were drawn and a few prizes were given away-
A unique game of bingo was played what else could they say?

They all had to get others to sign their sheets that were filled with different
things that some of them had happened to do-

A trip to the Holy Land is basically the main thing that none
of them had been through.

In the meantime they learned many details about each other
that they hadn't known prior-
Basically, interesting, they hungered for more information,
of the details they could not tire.

Father Hai came and gave them a wonderful talk about the
importance of women throughout history-
Quoting scriptures and giving examples of how truly
wonderful womanhood could be.

They all made a craft in the form of decorating a candle-
It was easy enough, and seemed quite easy to handle.

Swapping their handmade creations with another gave
them all one brand new-
To take home, to remember, to appreciate the art of
what another one can do.

A few more numbers were drawn until all of the prizes
on the table were clear-
Flowers to take home for each of them as this gathering's
end drew near.

The ladies of St. John of the Cross Parish got
together and the only thing missing was you-
Next time they gather, please join them,
for they love and miss you, and have so much
catching up to do.
